AlmaM is located in a XV century building at the center of the medieval village of Romainmôtier surrounded by the natural park of the Jura Vaudois.
Facing the Romanesque Abbey, soon to be a UNESCO world heritage, AlmaM(ôtiers) or the Cloister‘soul offers a space dedicated to artistic creativity linked to nature, spirituality and eco spirituality through residencies, exhibitions, concerts and conferences…
AlmaM offers artistic residencies spanning from a few days to a monthly duration.
Artists are invited to sense the uniqueness of the medieval village of Romainmôtier through its spirituality and its exceptional natural surroundings.
Besides to honour the special bond between Romainmôtier and Nagaoka in Japan created through the passion of our local artist Pierre Aubert for japanese paper, washi, AlmaM regularly offers a residency to Japanese artists.
From l'ARC to AlmaM
HISTORY
In 1981, after rescuing Romainmôtier’s historical Priors’House, Katharina von Arx convinces Migros to acquire the neighboring building to create an artistic residency, a then innovative concept.
After major restoration the Artistic Residency Center is launched.
For 18 years Veronika Seiller invites international artists with a special emphasis on literature, theater, and music.
In 2020, the artist Isabelle De La Touche takes over the Artistic Residency under the name AlmaM or the Cloister’s soul thus continuing its creative tradition.
An exhibition space L’Espace AlmaM is opened offering artists in residence the possibility to show their work throughout the summer.
ARTISTIC
ENCOUNTERS
A month-long visual art residency is offered every year. The artist is invited to create in situ to feel this unique environment imbued with nature and spirituality.
The work is shown throughout the summer at Espace AlmaM.
With two large rooms fitting up to 50 people, AlmaM proposes original theatre and music performances following one moto : CREATE EMOTION.
For larger summer performance AlmaM has access to La Maison Des Moines which can host 100 people.

L’Espace AlmaM offers a 35sqm space exhibition with hanging and lighting facilities as well as a video security system.
Opening directly on the Café du Prieur, this space is of free access to incite the visitors’ curiosity.
The summer exhibition is opened daily from 11am to 6 pm.
